What do you live for?
I live for love. Probably cliche, but love is different for me. It is a state of being. It is turning the other cheek. It is not shouting back at your mother when she shouts at you, but understanding that at that moment she is shouting as much to her pain as she is to you. It is looking at the way a girl sits alone in a bus, looking out the window, smiling, and realizing that we could fall in love with anyone if we saw them at their most vulnerable. It is saying sorry during an argument because a friendship is more important than who's right and who's wrong. It is helping out a friend and not feeling a pinch when they do not thank you, it is okay, that is not the point, the point of love has always been in the act of loving itself. And as long as i live, i would like to love kindly, strongly, and truthfully.
I get very uncomfortable when people say they are turned off by love, that they think it is ridiculous, selfish, messy and painful. No, we are messy. We are selfish. But love, love is pure and love is kind. I think this quote by Osho encapsulates it pretty well :
"In fact a mature person does not fall in love, he rises in love. The word ’fall’ is not right. Only immature people fall; they stumble and fall down in love. Somehow they were managing and standing. They cannot manage and they cannot stand – they find a woman and they are gone, they find a man and they are gone. They were always ready to fall on the ground and to creep. They don’t have the backbone, the spine; they don’t have that integrity to stand alone."
I think if we stop acting as if every single thing owed us something - be it our parents, the education system, or love - and start taking charge of our own lives and creating meaning on our own instead of demanding for it, we might be able to finally be in love. Not with anyone in particular, but just be in a perpetual state of lovingness for the world and everything in it.
Why?
Why? It's a little hard to say without sounding weird, but mostly because it is the only choice for me. I don't see any other way to live that is as rewarding and as meaningful. And i'm not even choosing this because it is rewarding, I'm simply believing in it because my being knows no other way it can survive and strengthen other than to live with love.
What is some of the best advice that you have been given/want to give our readers?
To speak only if what you're about to say if more beautiful than silence. To speak only if you have something good to say. Believe the best in people. Be kind. And always laugh! laughter is very very important.
Something random you'd like to say?
I recently got a pet cat named Gandalf and he's so distractingly cute and I love him more everyday and I think everybody should have a cat to love and run home to.
